Financial Controller

Ballinasloe Credit Union is a progressive financial services provider with over 19,500 members and total assets of €124 million.  Our offices are based in the main street in the heart of the community in Ballinasloe.

Principal responsibilities of the role:

The Financial Controller will report directly to the CEO and will have overall responsibility for the delivery of timely and accurate financial management reporting. He / She will support the development and execution of the Credit Union’s Finance Strategy and help ensure alignment with the overall objectives of the Strategic Plan. The role will act as Finance support to the Board, assisting them in the analysis, understanding, and planning of significant impacts (positive or negative) to the financial well-being of the Credit Union

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for implementing effective processes and controls to accurately measure and report financial performance
  • Review all financial reports ensuring that underlying processes, reviews, and controls have been completed in accordance with best practice and regulatory requirements
  • Support the financial modeling, development of projections, stress testing, and scenario planning, and the development of budgets aligned to the ambition in the strategic plan
  • Complete the analysis of product profitability across the suite of CU products
  • Review of investments with the CEO, Board and external bodies
  • Responsible for the preparation of financial information for the Board and committees. Support the Board in their understanding of the dynamics and critical issues contained therein
  • Report on progress and the achievement of financial and other organisational performance metrics on an annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly or daily basis, as appropriate
  • Management and co-ordination of all internal and external reporting, including the consolidation of monthly management accounts
  • Responsibility for administration of outsourced payroll and all ancillary processes
  • Overall responsibility for efficient resourcing and operation of Credit Control and Finance function including supporting and developing team members
  • Maintain operational targets and work with team members to develop and implement plans to meet these targets
  • Support the Operations Manager to develop the financial analysis, business modelling and economics of operations to optimise the balance of service and cost
  • Continuous improvement – identification of opportunities for improvement of analysis and reporting and implementation of efficiency models
  • Support the CEO by providing analysis of financial information, with the provision of ad hoc reports that will lead to new business initiatives
  • Support the CEO in any undertakings pertaining to the Credit Union

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • Qualified accountant with 5+ years’ industry or relevant practice experience.
  • Experience in financial services desirable
  • Experience in managing a small team of staff
  • Expert knowledge of accounting and financial analysis
  • A thorough understanding of Credit Union rules and regulations
  • Ability to plan/forecast, develop budgets, design financial models and oversee the implementation of financial strategies
  • A customer-centric focus ensuring that a first-class service is delivered to members
  • Proficient in the use of all Microsoft office products, especially Excel
  • Excellent report writing, presentation administrative, organisational & business support skills
  • This role is a Central Bank Pre-Approved Control Function and is subject to strict Fitness and Probity obligations

Operations Manager

Principal responsibilities of the role:

The Operations Manager will report directly to the CEO and will be responsible for ensuring that standards of control, practices, methods, competence and capability in the operations and administration function are to the highest standard and are consistent across every area of the operation and in line with strategic and business goals. The role will have responsibility for all member touchpoints and will be focused on ensuring the member can transact and engage with the credit union with ease and in doing so will receive the highest quality service in the most efficient and effective manner, in a cost-efficient way. She/he will be a member of the Management Team and will be an active participant in strategic planning for the continued growth and success of Ballinasloe Credit Union

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for the management of front line staff including overseeing appropriate staffing levels, profiles and development throughout the credit union.
  • Ensuring that standards of control, practices, methods, competence and capability in the operations and administration function are to the highest standard and are consistently met across all areas
  • In conjunction with the relevant team members, ensure that the entire member experience is efficient, effective and to the highest service levels and is fully compliant with its regulatory requirements
  • Support team members in the day to day performance of their duties as they advance the member experience
  • Working alongside Business Development and Member services team to continually refine operational processes and improve services and offerings to further improve the member experience
  • Maintain operational targets and work with team members to develop and implement plans to meet these targets
  • Work with the Financial Controller to develop the financial analysis, business modelling and economics of operations to optimise the balance of service and cost
  • Report on progress and the achievement of the financial and other organisational performance metrics on an annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly or daily basis, as appropriate
  • Liaise with key stakeholders around the business to ensure the successful implementation of targets, goals and objectives from the strategic plan
  • Provide analytical support and aid decision-making, conducting ad hoc analysis of business challenges, opportunities and implications of changes
  • Continually evaluate and as needed implement operational process efficiencies
  • Support the CEO in any undertakings pertaining to the Credit Union
  • Responsibility for managing a team of staff ensuring HR structures and processes are in line with legislation and best practice

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • Minimum 5+ years’ management experience within financial services
  • A third level business degree or equivalent
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication skills
  • Excellent people management and leadership experience managing teams
  • Successful track record of implementing HR processes, employee resourcing, performance and change management
  • Appropriate attention to detail, to ensure that the Credit Union meets its responsibilities as a regulated entity
  • Central Bank minimum competency requirements (MCR) or will undertake training to complete this requirement
