The Irish League of Credit Unions Foundation, funds the setting up of credit unions in this part of the world. Women are the driving force in setting up and running credit unions and their ambition is to feed their families and take them out of poverty. They also strive to educate their family members with the hope that this will one day change their lives for ever.
The average loan borrowed from these credit unions is €5 sometimes taken to purchase seeds to grow in the fields or to set up small enterprises.
Ballinasloe Credit Union is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.
